Keyword Research

Keyword Research finds relevant search terms, checks demand and turns useful discoveries into keywords for monitored websites.

Overview

Keyword Research contains three tools:

Tool Best used for
AI Research by Keyword Expanding one topic into related keyword ideas
Search Volume Check Checking demand and competition for an existing list
AI Research by Domain Finding keyword ideas relevant to any public website

Each tool uses the selected location to provide market-specific research. Results can be searched, filtered, sorted, exported and added to a website in the active workspace.

Keyword Research supports discovery and planning. It does not start ranking checks unless the destination website has an applicable active Market.

Access, credits and scope

A signed-in Wheremore account is required. Research requests use account credits, so sufficient credits must be available when a search starts.

The research target is not restricted by the active workspace. AI Research by Domain accepts any valid public domain, including a competitor or another external website.

Workspace scope applies when a keyword is saved. The add control lists only websites that are accessible in the active workspace.

Quick start

  1. Select the research tool that matches the task.
  2. Enter a keyword list, topic or public domain.
  3. Select the audience location.
  4. Run the research and filter the results.
  5. Export the findings or select + to add a keyword to a monitored website.

Choose the right tool

AI Research by Keyword

Use AI Research by Keyword when a broad topic needs expanding into related searches.

  1. Enter the main keyword or topic.
  2. Select a location.
  3. Select Get Suggestions.
  4. Review the generated and enriched ideas.
  5. Filter, export or add relevant terms.

The results combine AI-generated ideas with live keyword suggestions. Search volume and trend data appear where the research services return them.

Treat generated ideas as research prompts. Check relevance, search intent and wording before adding them to monitoring or a content plan.

Search Volume Check

Use Search Volume Check when the terms are already known and need demand data.

  1. Enter one keyword per line.
  2. Add no more than 1,000 keywords.
  3. Select a location.
  4. Select Check Keyword Volume.
  5. Review or export the results.

This tool returns available search volume, paid-search competition and monthly demand trends. It does not generate additional ideas.

Duplicate and invalid lines are removed before the request. If more than 1,000 valid terms are supplied, the current check uses the first 1,000.

AI Research by Domain

Use AI Research by Domain to discover keyword ideas relevant to a public website.

  1. Enter the domain, such as example.com .
  2. Select a location.
  3. Select Get Suggestions.
  4. Review the returned topics and commercial signals.
  5. Add or export the relevant terms.

The target can be an owned website, a competitor or any other valid public domain. It does not need to exist in the active Wheremore workspace.

Domain research examines the whole website rather than one page. It returns relevant keyword ideas, not the website’s measured analytics data or confirmed organic ranking positions. Use Competitor Insight when actual ranked-keyword estimates and ranking pages are required.

Select a location

Location defines the audience market used for demand and competition estimates. Search for a country, region or supported local area, then select the intended result.

Use a country for broad national research. Choose a more specific location when the content or campaign targets a clearly defined local audience.

Changing location can change volume, competition and suggested terms. Compare like-for-like locations when reviewing separate searches.

Understand the results

The visible columns depend on the selected tool.

Field Meaning
Keyword The generated, supplied or domain-relevant search term
Search Volume Estimated monthly searches for the selected location
CPC Estimated paid advertising cost per click
Competition Paid-search advertiser competition
Trend Monthly search-volume movement over the available period

Search volume, CPC and competition are external planning estimates. They are not guarantees of traffic, rankings or conversion value.

Competition is not Keyword Difficulty. Competition describes paid advertising demand, while Keyword Difficulty estimates the organic effort required to rank. Keyword Research does not copy paid competition into the KD field.

A zero or blank value means the source returned no usable value for that metric. It does not prove that nobody searches for the term.

Search, filter and sort

Use Search keywords to narrow the loaded results by wording.

Use Min. Volume to show:

  • Any volume
  • 100+
  • 500+
  • 1,000+
  • 10,000+

Select a supported column heading to sort the loaded data. Select it again to reverse the order.

The numbered controls divide loaded results into pages of 10. Moving between these pages does not run another research request.

Add a keyword

Select + beside a result to add it to Manage Keywords.

One accessible website

When the active workspace contains one accessible website, Wheremore saves the keyword to it automatically.

Several accessible websites

When several websites are available, select the intended destination from the inline website selector.

The save action uses the search volume already returned with the research result. It does not make another metric request. Paid-search competition is not saved as keyword difficulty.

If the result has no search volume, the keyword is saved without a volume value. Use Fetch KD & volume in Manage Keywords when fresh organic difficulty and volume data are required.

If the keyword already exists for that website, Wheremore keeps the existing record and updates the available returned volume.

Start monitoring an added keyword

Adding a keyword stores it against the selected website. Ranking collection requires an applicable active Market.

When the website has a Market configured to use all its keywords, the new term is linked to that tracking setup. Without a Market, the keyword remains saved until one is created or the term is added to an existing Market.

The plus control does not:

  • Add the researched external domain to the workspace
  • Create a category
  • Create a Market
  • Add an Action Board task
  • Publish or change any website content

Export results

Select the CSV icon after results load. The export contains the complete filtered result set rather than only the current page.

Apply a search or minimum-volume filter before exporting when only a focused list is required. Clear the filters to export every loaded result.

What should I do next?

Situation Action
A broad topic needs expansion Use AI Research by Keyword.
A prepared keyword list needs metrics Use Search Volume Check.
Another website’s themes need exploring Use AI Research by Domain.
Actual competitor rankings are required Open Competitor Insight.
A useful term should be monitored Select + and choose the destination website.
Volume or KD is missing after saving Use Fetch KD & volume in Manage Keywords.
The saved term has no rankings Add it to an active Market or create one.
Results need reviewing offline Filter the list and export it to CSV.

Troubleshooting

No results appear

  1. Confirm that the keyword, list or domain is valid.
  2. Confirm that a location is selected.
  3. Check that sufficient credits are available.
  4. Run the request again after a short interval if the research service is busy.
  5. Broaden an overly specific topic when the source has no matching data.

Domain research rejects a website

Enter a public domain such as example.com  or a full URL such as https://example.com/ . Private addresses, incomplete hostnames and invalid URLs are rejected.

The domain does not need to belong to the workspace.

The request is slow

Keep the page open while the current request completes. AI generation and large external-domain result sets take longer than a short volume check.

Avoid repeatedly selecting the submit button, as each new request starts a separate research run.

A metric is zero or blank

The source returned no usable value for that term and location. Change the location only when a different audience market is genuinely required.

For a saved keyword, use Fetch KD & volume in Manage Keywords when a dedicated metric refresh is needed.

No websites appear after selecting plus

Confirm that:

  1. The correct workspace is active.
  2. The workspace contains at least one website.
  3. The signed-in account can access that website.

Add the website in Manage Keywords or switch workspace, then select the plus control again.

Adding a keyword fails

Refresh the page after a workspace change and confirm that the destination website still belongs to the active workspace. Follow any specific validation message shown by Wheremore.

The keyword was added but is not tracking

Open Manage Keywords → Markets. Confirm that the website has an active Market that includes the keyword or uses all website keywords.

The CSV is empty

Run a research request first. If results are visible, clear filters that remove every row and export again.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI Research by Domain analyse a competitor?

Yes. It accepts any valid public domain, whether or not that website is stored in Wheremore.

Does domain research show the keywords a website ranks for?

No. It returns ideas relevant to the website. Use Competitor Insight for estimated organic rankings, positions and ranking pages.

Does the active workspace restrict research?

No. It restricts the owned websites available as save destinations.

Is paid-search competition the same as KD?

No. Paid competition describes advertiser activity. KD estimates organic ranking difficulty.

Does adding a result request KD automatically?

No. Wheremore saves the available returned volume without making another metric request. Run Fetch KD & volume in Manage Keywords when required.

Can a keyword be added without a Market?

Yes. It remains saved against the website, but tracking starts only through an applicable active Market.

Does the plus button add the external website?

No. It adds the selected keyword to one of the accessible websites in the active workspace.

Does browser pagination use more credits?

No. It moves through results already loaded in the browser.

Does Keyword Research create Board actions?

No. It adds keywords to Manage Keywords and exports research data.

Are search volume and CPC exact?

No. They are estimates for research and prioritisation.
