Zone Revisit Analysis
Identify which sections users return to most often—revealing content that demands repeated attention and drives meaningful engagement.
Quick start
1. Select the target page from the Pages dropdown
2. Set Date Range to Last 30 days for reliable patterns
3. Find the tallest bars—these zones receive the most meaningful engagement
4. Note which zones have low or no engagement—these may need improvement
5. Click Analyse with AI for recommendations on content placement
Understanding the display
The chart displays a column graph showing the distribution of meaningful engagement across 10% scroll zones. The X-axis shows scroll zones from 0% to 100%. The Y-axis shows each zone’s share of total meaningful engagement as a percentage.

Meaningful engagement is defined as time spent in a zone with 2+ seconds of dwell time. Quick scroll-throughs do not count—only deliberate attention registers. The chart shows where visitors choose to spend focused time, not just where they pass through.
Visual indicators
| Indicator | Meaning |
| Tall bar | High engagement zone—visitors spend focused time here repeatedly |
| Short/empty bar | Low engagement—visitors pass through without stopping |
| Engagement at top only | Above-the-fold content captures attention; deeper content is ignored |
| Even distribution | Content throughout the page earns attention—good pacing |
| Spike at bottom | Footer content, CTAs, or related links capturing meaningful attention |
What should I do next?
The engagement distribution pattern reveals where visitors find value:
| Pattern | Action |
| All engagement at the top | Content below the fold fails to capture attention. Add compelling hooks, visuals, or interactive elements to pull visitors deeper. |
| No engagement anywhere | Visitors scroll through without stopping. Content may be too dense, poorly formatted, or mismatched to visitor intent. |
| Spike in middle section | Valuable content is buried. Consider moving it higher or adding earlier pathways to that section. |
| Engagement at top and bottom, gap in middle | Middle content is being skipped. Strengthen it or consider removing if it adds no value. |
| Mobile engagement differs from desktop | Content may not translate well across devices. Review mobile layout and consider device-specific optimisation. |
Using the filters
Filters appear at the top of the Page Engagement Dashboard and apply to all charts on the page.
Date range
| Option | Best for |
| Last 7 days | Testing recent content or layout changes |
| Last 30 days | Establishing reliable engagement patterns (default) |
| Last 90 days | Long-term behaviour and seasonal comparison |
Device
Filter by desktop, mobile, or tablet to see device-specific engagement patterns. Mobile visitors often engage with different zones than desktop users due to layout differences, screen size, and interaction patterns. Comparing devices reveals whether content placement works across all formats.
Referrer
Filter by traffic source to compare engagement from different channels. Visitors from organic search may engage with different content than those from social media or paid ads—different audiences often have different priorities.
Understanding meaningful engagement
This chart measures meaningful engagement, defined as visits to a scroll zone with at least 2 seconds of dwell time. The 2-second threshold filters out casual scrolling and captures deliberate attention.
The Y-axis shows engagement distribution, not absolute counts. If a zone shows 25%, it means that zone receives 25% of all meaningful engagement on the page. This normalisation allows comparison across pages with different traffic volumes.
High engagement in a zone indicates visitors find that content valuable enough to pause and absorb. Low engagement suggests visitors scroll past without engaging—the content may be unnecessary, poorly positioned, or unappealing.
Interactive features
Hover over any bar to see the exact scroll zone and engagement percentage. Use the menu icon (⋮) in the chart header to export as PNG, JPEG, or SVG for reports and presentations.
Troubleshooting
No data appears
The page may not have sufficient traffic or engagement during the selected date range. Expand the date range or select a higher-traffic page. Tracking requires the SERP360 script to be installed on the page.
All bars are very low or empty
Visitors are scrolling through without pausing for 2+ seconds anywhere. This is common for pages with minimal content, pages where visitors quickly find what they need, or pages that fail to capture interest.
Data shows only for some devices
Some devices may have insufficient traffic to generate meaningful data. This is common for tablet traffic, which is typically much lower than desktop or mobile. Expand the date range to accumulate more data.
FAQ
Why 2 seconds as the threshold?
Two seconds represents the minimum time for deliberate attention. Faster visits typically indicate scrolling through content rather than engaging with it. The threshold filters out casual browsing to focus on meaningful interaction.
How does this differ from time spent?
The Scroll Depth vs Time Spent chart shows average time at each zone. This chart shows the distribution of meaningful engagement—where visitors choose to focus their attention across the entire page. Both provide valuable but different perspectives.
Why are zones 10% instead of 5%?
Larger zones provide clearer patterns for engagement analysis. The 10% increments reduce noise and make it easier to identify which sections of the page capture attention.
Can engagement exceed 100%?
No. The chart shows distribution of engagement, so all zones sum to 100%. Each bar shows what percentage of total meaningful engagement occurs in that zone.
