seo performance metrics
The SEO Performance widget tracks ranking health across three key metrics, revealing whether search visibility is improving, stable, or needs attention.
Quick start
1. Select a search group from the page dropdown
2. Choose 28d for trend analysis
3. Check all three metrics for overall health
4. Focus on metrics showing declining status first
Understanding the display
The widget displays three metric cards. Each card shows current performance, comparison against a calculated baseline, and trend indicators.

The three metrics
| Metric | Measures | Why it matters |
| Ranking Coverage | Keywords ranking in top 100 | Shows breadth of search presence |
| Page-1 Visibility | Volume-weighted page-1 percentage | Reveals traffic potential from top positions |
| Net Ranking Change | New rankings minus lost rankings | Indicates momentum direction |
Reading a metric card
Each card contains several data points. The main value appears prominently with context. Below that, baseline comparison shows performance against the calculated normal range.
| Element | What it shows |
| Main value | Current metric value with context |
| Status badge | Improving, stable, or declining |
| vs baseline | Difference from median baseline |
| Normal range | Expected range based on recent history |
| WoW / MoM | Week-over-week and month-over-month changes |
| Days at baseline | Days performing at or above baseline |
Status indicators
| Status | Meaning |
| Improving | Consistent gains, trending upward |
| Stable | Within normal range, no clear trend |
| Declining | Consistent losses, trending downward |
What should I do next?
Status determines where to focus effort. Declining metrics need investigation; stable metrics need monitoring; improving metrics need protection.
| Situation | Action |
| All metrics improving | Document what changed. Protect current strategy. |
| Mixed results | Prioritise declining metrics. Run AI Analysis on affected pages. |
| All metrics stable | Monitor weekly. Consider content refresh opportunities. |
| All metrics declining | Check for technical issues first. Review recent site changes. |
| Coverage high, visibility low | Keywords rank but not on page 1. Focus on position improvements. |
| Visibility high, coverage low | Strong on tracked keywords. Consider expanding keyword set. |
| Net change negative | Losing more rankings than gaining. Investigate lost keywords. |
Using the filters
Search group
A search group is a collection of tracked keywords, typically organised by website, location, or device type. Select the relevant group from the page-level dropdown. All metrics filter to keywords in that group only.
Search engine
Toggle between Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Only engines with data for the selected search group appear. Different engines show different rankings, which is normal behaviour.
Period
| Period | Best for |
| 7d | Recent changes, quick health check |
| 28d | Trend analysis, standard reporting |
| 90d | Long-term patterns, strategic planning |
Metrics explained
Ranking Coverage
Counts how many tracked keywords appear somewhere in the top 100 search results. A keyword either ranks or it does not.
• Current: Keywords ranking today
• Total: All tracked keywords in the search group
• WoW: Change from one week ago
• MoM: Change from period start
Page-1 Visibility
Measures the percentage of total search volume captured by keywords ranking in positions 1 through 10. High-volume keywords contribute more to this metric than low-volume keywords.
A site with 50% page-1 visibility captures half of the potential traffic from tracked keywords. Position improvements on high-volume keywords move this metric significantly.
Net Ranking Change
Calculates new rankings minus lost rankings over the selected period. A positive number indicates growth. A negative number indicates contraction.
• New: Keywords that started ranking during the period
• Lost: Keywords that stopped ranking during the period
Baseline and normal range
Each metric displays a baseline comparison. The baseline represents typical performance, calculated from recent data. The normal range shows expected variation.
Performance within the normal range is expected. Values outside the range warrant attention. Consistently above range indicates strong performance. Consistently below range suggests investigation.
| Range indicator | Meaning |
| Within range | Normal performance |
| Above range | Better than typical |
| Below range | Worse than typical |
Exporting data
Click the Export button to download a CSV file containing all displayed metrics, baseline values, and change indicators. The export includes data needed for reporting and further analysis.
Troubleshooting
No data showing
The widget requires a search group selection. Select a search group from the page-level dropdown. If no search groups appear, keywords have not been added for tracking yet.
Engine selector missing options
Only engines with ranking data appear. If Google is the only option, tracking is configured for Google only. Check search group settings to add additional engines.
Metrics show zero or unexpected values
New tracking takes time to accumulate data. Allow at least seven days for meaningful trends. The baseline calculation requires historical data to establish normal ranges.
Different values across engines
Each search engine returns different results. Variations between Google, Bing, and Yahoo are expected. Compare within the same engine over time for accurate trend analysis.
FAQ
How often does ranking data update?
Rankings typically update daily. Exact timing depends on account configuration and keyword volume.
What counts as ranking?
A keyword ranks when it appears in the top 100 search results. Position 101 or lower is treated as not ranking.
How is the baseline calculated?
The baseline uses the median value from the selected period. The normal range accounts for typical variation in the data.
Why does visibility use search volume weighting?
A keyword with 10,000 monthly searches matters more for traffic than one with 100 searches. Volume weighting reflects actual traffic potential.
Can metrics improve while rankings drop?
Yes. Losing low-volume keywords while gaining high-volume keywords increases visibility even if coverage drops. Focus on all three metrics together.
