SERP Features
SERP Features shows which enhanced search-result elements appear for tracked keywords and provides evidence-based recommendations for improving a page’s eligibility for them.
Overview
Search results can contain more than standard links. SERP Features tracks elements such as AI Overviews, featured snippets, People Also Ask, related searches, images, videos, knowledge panels and local results.
The dashboard shows feature presence across the selected search group and engines. Selecting one keyword narrows the view. Analyse with AI then reviews that keyword’s Google results, the tracked page and available page-one evidence to produce specific recommendations.
Recommendations can be added directly to the Action Board.
Access and data scope
- SERP Features uses the active workspace.
- Search groups and keywords are limited to those available to the signed-in user.
- AI analysis requires one accessible workspace, search group and keyword.
- The analysed keyword must belong to the selected search group and a domain in the active workspace.
- Action Board destinations are limited to accessible projects in the active workspace that are mapped to the analysed domain.
If access or source context changes after an analysis, rerun it before adding a recommendation to the Board.
Quick start
- Select the relevant workspace and search group.
- Review the chart to see which features occur across tracked engines.
- Select one keyword for a focused view.
- Select Analyse with AI for page-one evidence and recommendations.
- Review a recommendation before selecting Add to Board.
Understand the chart
The column chart groups tracked SERP feature types and shows their occurrence by search engine.
- Feature labels identify the recorded result type.
- Column height or value shows the number of matching keywords in a search-group view.
- Engine colours separate Google, Bing and Yahoo.
- Keyword selection focuses the result on one keyword, showing whether each recorded feature is present for that keyword and engine.
Use the legend to show or hide an engine. A zero means no matching stored feature was returned for that scope; it does not prove that the feature can never appear.
The dashboard uses stored tracking results. A newly changed live result will appear after the relevant tracking data is refreshed.
Select a search group and keyword
The search group defines the tracked keyword collection. The keyword list is populated from the selected accessible group.
When the search group changes:
- The feature chart refreshes.
- The keyword selector is repopulated.
- A previous keyword selection may no longer apply.
Select a keyword before running AI analysis. Analysis does not run across the whole search group.
Analyse with AI
SERP Features Analysis is a single-keyword, Google-focused analysis.
It uses:
- The selected keyword and search group
- The tracked ranking page when available
- Recorded feature types from the wider search results
- A current page-one results screenshot when it can be captured and read
Page-one screenshot evidence has greater specificity than wider-results data. It can identify visible questions, snippet formats, feature holders and AI Overview citations. Wider-results data identifies feature types only and cannot reveal their visible contents or prove that they appear on page one.
If a screenshot cannot be read, the analysis continues using the tracked page and recorded feature types. It should not imply that it saw page-one contents that were unavailable.
Review Recommended Actions
Each action can include:
- Task: The proposed improvement.
- Page URL: The tracked page under review.
- Keyword: The analysed search term.
- Target Feature: The result feature the action supports.
- Section: Where the change belongs on the page.
- Current State: What the available page or result evidence shows.
- Recommended Change: The proposed wording, structure or markup.
- Evidence: Why the recommendation was created.
- SERP evidence: A readable page-one fact when available.
- Technical Specifications: Supporting HTML, content structure or schema guidance.
- Priority: Immediate, near-term or can-wait.
Recommendations improve eligibility; they do not guarantee that a search engine will display, award or retain a feature.
Understand the evidence levels
Page-one evidence
When the screenshot read succeeds, the report can use visible page-one facts such as:
- AI Overview presence and cited source domains
- A featured snippet’s holder and displayed format
- Exact People Also Ask questions
- Related Searches or People Also Search For queries
- Visible feature labels and organic-result titles
This evidence describes what appeared in that captured result. It is not a permanent guarantee because search results can change.
Wider-results evidence
Stored tracking can show that a feature type appeared somewhere in the wider result set. It does not provide the visible question, answer, holder or page-one position.
Actions based only on wider-results evidence should be treated as readiness improvements rather than confirmed page-one capture opportunities.
Review copy and schema carefully
The report can recommend page copy, HTML structure and schema markup. Review all proposed material before publishing.
Draft – verify means the suggested wording contains a claim that was not already supported by the tracked page. Verify or rewrite it before implementation. The warning also applies to technical examples or schema containing the same claim.
Schema must match visible page content. Adding schema for content that users cannot see does not replace adding and verifying the underlying content.
Search-result evidence does not reveal competitor page bodies. A visible title can suggest an angle, while page depth, formatting and schema require a separate page-level investigation.
Add a recommendation to the Action Board
- Review the recommendation, evidence and technical specifications.
- Select Add to Board on the required action.
- If one eligible project exists, Wheremore adds the item to that project automatically.
- If several eligible projects exist, select the destination project and confirm.
- Check for the Added confirmation.
Only projects accessible to the user and mapped to the analysed domain are offered. If no eligible project is available, map the domain to an accessible project in the active workspace before trying again.
The Board item retains the source keyword, search group, page, target feature, evidence, recommendation, technical detail and priority. Rerun an expired analysis rather than attempting to save an old or changed recommendation.
Measure an AI Overview citation outcome
For supported AI Overview recommendations, the Action Board can compare citation status before and after a verified implementation using subsequently captured tracking data.
This check:
- Uses the same project, workspace, domain, keyword and search group.
- Uses Google AI Overview captures recorded through normal tracking.
- Waits for a populated capture after implementation verification.
- Reports whether a project domain is cited in the available result.
It does not run a fresh paid analysis on demand. If no post-implementation capture exists yet, wait for normal tracking to record one.
Detailed Analysis
Expand Detailed Analysis to review:
- Executive Summary: The main page-one opportunities and wider-results context.
- Content Overview: How ready the tracked page appears for observed features.
- Feature Gap Analysis: Requirements, current status and supported competitor observations.
- Technical Requirements: Schema examples and recommended HTML structure.
Use the export control to save the displayed analysis as a text file.
Ask Wheremore about the analysis
After a successful analysis, Ask Wheremore opens with the report and supporting evidence in context.
Useful questions include:
- Which page-one opportunity should I prioritise?
- What evidence supports this recommendation?
- Is this based on page-one evidence or wider results?
- Which proposed wording needs verification?
- What will be added to the Action Board?
Ask Wheremore can explain the analysis and help with an approved Board action. A write action requires confirmation and must use an eligible accessible project.
What should I do next?
- AI Overview cites competitors but not the tracked domain: Review the concepts and cited-source evidence without copying unverified result text.
- Featured snippet held by another domain: Review the displayed format and create a clearer eligible answer for the observed feature.
- Relevant People Also Ask question appears: Add a visible, concise answer supported by the page; use matching schema only where appropriate.
- Feature exists only in wider results: Treat it as a lower-confidence readiness action.
- Recommendation says Draft – verify: Verify every unsupported claim before publishing or saving implementation-ready copy.
- No relevant feature opportunity appears: Avoid manufacturing an action for an absent or unrelated feature.
Troubleshooting
- Select a search group message: Choose an accessible search group in the active workspace.
- Keyword list is empty: Confirm that the search group contains tracked keywords and that the user has access.
- No feature data: Select another keyword or wait for tracking data to populate.
- Analysis will not start: Confirm the workspace, search group and keyword selections.
- No screenshot evidence: Continue with the wider-results analysis or rerun after a recent Google check is available.
- No Add to Board project: Confirm that an accessible project in the workspace is mapped to the analysed domain.
- Recommendation identity is invalid or expired: Rerun the analysis and use its newly generated action.
- Board item does not appear: Check for an Added confirmation and verify the eligible destination project before repeating the action.
- No post-implementation citation result: Wait for a populated Google AI Overview capture after implementation verification.
Frequently asked questions
Does SERP Features guarantee a featured snippet or AI Overview citation?
No. It recommends changes that support eligibility based on available evidence. Search engines decide what appears.
Does the analysis inspect competitor pages?
No. It can use visible search-result evidence such as titles, holders and cited domains, but it does not inspect competitor page bodies.
Why does the chart differ from the AI report?
The chart uses stored feature data across the selected scope. The AI report prioritises one keyword and can add a current page-one screenshot read.
Can a recommendation be added directly to the Action Board?
Yes. Select Add to Board and choose an eligible project when required.
Can any project be selected?
No. The project must be accessible, belong to the active workspace and be mapped to the analysed domain.
Who can see the data?
The feature uses accessible workspaces, search groups, keywords and projects for the signed-in user.
