AI Overviews

AI Overviews Summary shows which tracked keywords generated an AI Overview, what each overview contained and whether a domain in the active workspace was cited.

Overview

Use the summary to review AI Overview coverage across a search group. Each row represents the latest stored AI Overview for one tracked keyword and shows its content size, source count, summary and citation status.

Expanding a row reveals the individual sections of the overview and the sources referenced in each section.

This guide covers the AI Overviews view only. Top Sources is a separate tool with its own guide.

Access and data scope

• AI Overviews Summary uses the active workspace and selected search group.
• Results are restricted to domains associated with that scope and the signed-in user’s account access.
• Sub-account users can use search groups made available through their parent account access.
• The table uses the latest stored AI Overview for each keyword in the current scope.
• Changing workspace or search group refreshes the citation count and table.

If the selected workspace has no linked domains, no AI Overview data is shown.

Quick start

1. Select the relevant workspace and search group.
2. Check Your domain appears in for the current citation count.
3. Review the keyword rows and their Cited indicators.
4. Select a row to expand the full overview sections and sources.
5. Use the pagination controls to review additional keywords.

Understand the domain citation count

Your domain appears in: N AI overviews counts the latest keyword-level AI Overviews in which a domain from the active workspace and search group appears as a cited source.

The count is based on domain matching. Common URL variations are normalised so that equivalent versions of the same host can be recognised.

A count of zero means no matching workspace domain was found among the stored citations for the current scope. It does not prove that the domain has never been cited or that it cannot appear in a future result.

Understand the table

Each row represents the latest stored AI Overview for one keyword.

• Keyword: The tracked search term that generated the overview.
• Volume: The keyword’s recorded search volume.
• Sections: The number of distinct content elements stored for the overview.
• Sources: The number of distinct source references stored across the overview.
• Summary: A shortened preview of the overview’s stored content.
• Cited: Indicates whether a domain from the current workspace and search group appears among the overview’s sources.

The same source can be referenced in more than one section. The source count represents distinct stored references for the overview, while the expanded details show how sources relate to individual content sections.

Expand an AI Overview

Select a keyword row to open its details beneath the row. Select it again to close the details.

The expanded view lists each stored overview element with:

• Content: The text captured for that part of the AI Overview.
• Sources: The source names associated with that content element.
• Position badge: The stored reference position associated with a source when available.

An AI Overview can contain several sections with overlapping sources. Review the complete expanded view before concluding which sources support the overall answer.

The content is a stored observation of the search result. It can differ from a later live search because AI Overviews can change between checks.

Understand citation status

The Cited indicator is present when at least one source in the latest stored overview matches a domain in the active workspace and search group.

Citation status is scoped. A domain associated with another workspace or search group does not count for the current view.

The indicator confirms source presence, not prominence, sentiment or ownership of the AI Overview. Open the row to see which section contains the matching source and what other sources were referenced.

Use pagination

The table displays a limited number of keywords per page. Use the numbered controls or arrows below the table to move through the full result set.

Changing search group resets the table to the first page. An expanded row does not remain open when the table reloads.

What should I do next?

• Domain is cited: Expand the row to identify the cited section and the other sources used alongside it.
• Domain is not cited: Review the overview’s content and sources, then use SERP Features for an evidence-based eligibility analysis.
• High-volume keyword has an AI Overview: Prioritise monitoring because changes can affect a larger search opportunity.
• Several sections use the same sources: Review the content element by element instead of treating repeated citations as separate domains.
• Overview content has changed: Compare the latest stored result after the next tracking update.
• No AI Overview exists for an important keyword: Confirm that current tracking has recorded one before planning an AI Overview-specific action.

Troubleshooting

• No AI Overviews found: Confirm the workspace and search group, then wait for relevant tracking data to populate.
• Citation count is zero: Confirm that the expected domain is linked to the active workspace and search group and appears as a stored source.
• A keyword is missing: The current view only includes keywords with stored AI Overview data in the selected scope.
• Expanded details do not load: Close the row, reopen it and refresh the page if the request continues to fail.
• Summary is cut short: The table intentionally shows a preview; expand the row for the stored content sections.
• Source appears more than once: A source can support several overview sections or be stored with naming variations.
• Pagination changed after switching group: Each search group has its own result count and the table returns to page one.
• Live search differs from Wheremore: The table shows the latest stored observation, not a continuously live result.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Top Sources?

No. AI Overviews Summary is organised by keyword and overview. Top Sources is a separate tool for source-level analysis.

Does Cited mean the domain owns the AI Overview?

No. It means a matching workspace domain appears among the stored source references.

Is the content generated by Wheremore?

No. This view reports captured AI Overview content and source references from tracked search results.

Why is the summary shorter than the expanded content?

The table uses a shortened preview so multiple keywords can be reviewed efficiently.

How current is the information?

The table uses the latest stored AI Overview for each keyword. It updates when new tracking data is captured.

Can this view add an action to the Board?

No. It is a read-only summary. Use SERP Features when a recommendation and supported Board action are required.

Does it open Ask Wheremore with analysis context?

No. This view does not create a separate AI analysis report or chat context.

Who can see the data?

The view uses the active workspace, selected search group and the signed-in user’s accessible account scope.
