Top Cited AI Conversations

Top Cited Conversations shows which AI conversation prompts generate the most brand citations across AI platforms—identifying where visibility is strongest and where attention is needed.


Quick start

1.    Open the AI Visibility section and allow the page to load

2.    Set the date range, persona, and platform using the global filter bar

3.    Check the Citation Position filter—start with Any Citation for a full picture

4.    Review the list, which displays conversations ranked by total brand citations

5.    Examine the platform bars to see which AI platforms cited the brand most for each conversation


Understanding the display

Each row represents a tracked conversation prompt—a query that has been tested across AI platforms to measure brand visibility. The rows are ranked by total brand citations, with the highest-cited conversations appearing first.

Conversation text shows the exact query used. Below it, tags display the associated persona, journey phase, and total number of brand citations recorded across all platforms and runs within the selected period.


The platform section on the right shows a bar for each tracked AI platform. Each bar represents the percentage of that conversation's total citations coming from that platform—making it easy to spot where brand visibility is strongest.


Citation count

The citation count reflects how many times the brand appeared as a cited source in AI responses to that conversation. A single conversation run across multiple platforms or over multiple days accumulates citations with each qualifying response.


Platform bars

Bars show each platform's share of total citations for that conversation. The highest-performing platform bar is highlighted. Where bars are roughly equal, brand visibility is spread across platforms. Where one bar dominates, visibility is concentrated on a single platform.

Use citation patterns to prioritise action:

No conversations shown Adjust filters—expand the date range, check the persona selection, or verify that brand configuration is complete.

Using the filters

Two sets of filters control what Top Cited Conversations displays: global filters shared across the AI Visibility section, and the Citation Position filter specific to this component.


Global filter bar

Settings in the global filter bar apply across all components on the page. Changes here update Top Cited Conversations automatically.


Filter What it controls
Date range The period for which citation data is included. Options: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, or a custom range.
Persona Filters by buyer persona configuration. Select a specific persona to focus on conversations run under that profile.
Platform Limits results to a single AI platform—such as ChatGPT or Gemini—or shows all platforms combined.
Phase Filters by journey phase, such as awareness or consideration, to focus analysis on a specific part of the funnel.
Provider Position Filters by where the brand appears as a recommended source in AI responses. "Any" includes all positions. "Top 3" limits to responses where the brand appeared in the top three providers. "Primary" limits to responses where the brand was the leading recommendation.

Citation Position

Citation Position is set within the Top Cited Conversations component and controls which citations are counted based on their rank within an AI response.

Any Citation All brand citations regardless of position in the response
Top 3 Citations Only citations where the brand appeared within the first three citations
Primary Citation Only citations where the brand was the first citation in the response

Narrowing Citation Position to Primary Citation highlights conversations where the brand consistently earns the leading citation—the strongest form of AI visibility.


Troubleshooting


No conversations shown

The selected filters are likely too restrictive, or no brand citations exist for the chosen period.

•       Expand the date range

•       Set Persona to all and Platform to all

•       Set Citation Position to Any Citation

•       Verify that the brand configuration is complete in account settings


Expected conversations are missing

Conversations only appear when the brand has been cited at least once during the selected period under the applied filters.

•       Switch Provider Position to Any

•       Switch Citation Position to Any Citation

•       Check the phase filter—conversations from other phases will not appear if a single phase is selected


Platform bars look unexpected

Platform bars show each platform's share of the conversation's total citations—not raw citation counts. A platform with fewer runs may show a higher percentage if the brand is cited in a larger proportion of those runs.

•       Review the citation count tag on the row to understand the underlying volume

•       Filter by a specific platform to isolate its data


Data seems out of date

Citation data updates as new platform runs are completed. If the period selected includes very recent dates, some data collection runs for those dates may still be in progress.

•       Try a completed period such as the last 30 days

•       Refresh the page and allow the component to reload

What counts as a brand citation?

A brand citation is recorded when the brand appears as a cited source in an AI platform's response to a tracked conversation prompt. Each qualifying response contributes to the conversation's total citation count.


How are conversations ranked?

Conversations are ranked by total brand citations within the selected period and filters, with the highest-cited conversation at the top. Up to ten conversations are displayed at a time.


Why does the same conversation appear with different citation counts at different times?

Citation counts accumulate over time as additional platform runs are completed. Selecting a broader date range or including more recent data increases the count. Changing filters such as Citation Position or Provider Position also changes which citations are included in the count.


What is the difference between Provider Position and Citation Position?

Provider Position relates to how prominently the brand appears as a recommended source within an AI response. Citation Position relates to where a direct citation or link to the brand appears in that response. Both can be used independently or together to focus on the strongest forms of brand visibility.


Can the data be exported?

Top Cited Conversations does not include a built-in export. Use the surrounding page controls or contact support for data export options.
