User Behaviour Attention and friction
Attention and friction on the User Behaviour dashboard shows where reach fell most down a page, which areas visitors came back to, and which elements they clicked repeatedly.
Attention and friction signals
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Largest reach drop | The biggest fall in reach between two neighbouring depths, in percentage points, with the two depths it falls between. |
| Most revisited area | The 10% band of the page the most sessions came back to, with the number of sessions. |
| Rage-click sessions | The number of sessions with several quick clicks on the same element or spot. |
Grey text means the measure is unavailable.
Revisited page areas
Revisited page areas on the User Behaviour dashboard shows how many sessions came back to each 10% band of the page, such as 40%–49%. Bands with no returns are not shown.
A revisit means a visitor paused on an area, scrolled away and came back to it in the same visit. It can mean useful re-reading as well as confusion.
Rage-click elements
Rage-click elements on the User Behaviour dashboard lists up to five elements with rage clicks. Each row shows the page, the element, the number of sessions and the number of clicks. "Unlabelled element" means the element has no readable label.
A rage click is several quick clicks on the same element or spot. It is a signal to investigate, not proof that something is broken.
Rage clicks are shown only when the whole selected period falls within rage-click tracking. For an earlier period, Rage-click sessions shows "Rage-click evidence is not available yet." and Rage-click elements shows "Rage-click evidence is not available for this selection." Choose a more recent period.
Attention and friction with a single traffic source
With a single traffic source selected on the User Behaviour dashboard, Largest reach drop still includes visits from every source. Rage-click sessions and Rage-click elements are filtered to that source.
Attention and friction with conversion comparison
With conversion comparison switched on, Attention and friction shows each measure for the Converted and Dropped off groups.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Largest reach drop | The biggest fall in reach for each group, with where it happened, for example "25 points, 65%–70%". "No decrease recorded" means reach did not fall. |
| Attempts returning to an area | The share of each group's measured attempts that came back to an area. |
| Attempts with flagged rage clicks | The share of each group's measured attempts with a rage click. |
The revisit chart becomes a line for each group, showing the share of measured attempts returning at each scroll position, in 5% steps. The rage-click list is split into Converted and Dropped off, with attempts and flagged clicks for each element.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No confirmed attempts | The group is empty. |
| Measurements not available yet | The group's data is not ready. |
| Not recorded | No attempt in the group has data for this measure. |
| Click measurements not available yet | Rage-click data for the group is not ready. |
| No flagged rage clicks recorded | The group was measured and had no rage clicks. |
| Converter and drop-off return measurements are not available yet. | Revisit data for the groups is not ready. |

Common misreadings of Attention and friction
| Belief | Correction |
|---|---|
| Rage clicks prove an element is broken. | They show repeated quick clicking. Check the element before changing it. |
| Revisits mean visitors were confused. | They can also mean visitors re-read something useful. |
| A revisited band is a named section of the page. | Bands are positions down the page, not a map of its sections. |
| The largest reach drop is where visitors left the page. | It is where the share scrolling further fell most. Visitors may still have clicked or converted. |
| No rage clicks in Attention and friction matches a dash in Page performance. | A dash means rage clicks are not available for the period, not that there were none. |
