Content Drafting

Content Drafting turns a saved outline or an imported article into editable prose in the Content Drafting workspace. Wheremore can write a draft section by section, review it and retain recovery points for earlier versions. Drafts stay in Wheremore: generating, editing, restoring or marking a draft ready does not update a page on your website.

For preparing the article brief, approving a thesis and editing an outline, see Content Outlines.

Before you start

Save an outline first unless you are importing an existing article. Draft generation uses the saved outline and its available research and article brief. Keep a generated outline to 20 sections or fewer for draft planning.

Check the project audience and brand voice. Review the article brief's notes before drafting: notes marked publishable can be used as bounded first-party material, while unchecked notes guide planning only. A supplied brand page can describe the brand's own product or service; it is not independent proof of outcomes. Verify external claims and the exact scope of any first-party figures.

Draft generation, section rewrites and Ask Wheremore edits use AI credits. Manual editing, importing, restoring, previewing and exporting do not.

Open a draft

In Content Bank, the writing button reads Create draft when the item has an outline but no draft, or View draft when a draft exists. The item's preview can also show Open outline → and Open draft →. Both open the Content Drafting workspace. Labelled Outline and Draft buttons in the Content Bank table open saved writing. A button with a + starts creation of that content.

An item with an outline has Outline and Draft tabs. Once a draft exists, the outline heading changes to Outline reference, because draft sections are saved separately. A progress rail shows Approve thesis, Review outline and Write and review draft for AI-created work. An imported article without an outline shows only the draft step, Edit and review imported draft.

A draft's status is separate from its Content Bank topic status:

Draft status Meaning
Outline ready The outline is saved and no draft exists.
Generating A background operation is running.
Needs check The draft exists but has not been approved after generation or an edit.
Ready The draft has been marked ready.
Error The draft needs attention after an error.

Create the first draft

  1. From the saved Outline tab, select Create first draft. The workspace saves the current outline before starting.
  2. Follow the Generating status and progress line. You can close the page and reopen the same item to reconnect to background work.
  3. When generation finishes, open Review and read Sources and Checks.
  4. Read the full draft. Edit sections directly or use a section's AI controls for a focused change.
  5. Select Mark ready only after checking the article and any remaining warnings or sources.
  6. Use Preview draft, Copy draft, Export Word or Export PDF when you need a working copy.

Wheremore first plans what the article must answer, the role of each section, its evidence and points that should appear only once. It then writes sections in order, reviews the whole draft, repairs eligible findings and checks the repairs. Finished sections are saved in the workspace. Sections being generated are locked until their operation ends.

The generated result normally enters Needs check. If a stage fails, saved sections are retained and Background generation needs attention can appear. An unfinished section can be generated individually. If automated review cannot run, Wheremore records the high-severity Draft not reviewed warning and the background run fails instead of reporting a reviewed completion. Read the retained draft and resolve the problem before treating it as ready.

Email notifications

In Notifications, enable Content Drafting if you want an email when a full draft you requested is saved and ready to review. An email can be skipped if you have already viewed that result. The link opens the saved draft; it does not mark it ready.

Single-section generation or edits, Ask Wheremore edits, imports and manual changes do not send draft-completion emails.

What the writing and review check

The approved thesis remains the central argument, while each section should contribute something distinct. Externally checkable facts need suitable source support. Wheremore can also use scoped first-party material you explicitly marked publishable in the article brief, even if it has no public link. It should keep figures, population, dates and limits at the strength supplied; the author's own product page does not independently prove effectiveness.

Generated sections use UK English and the project's audience and brand voice. The writer is instructed to link only to retained source URLs, use no more than two links per section, keep link text descriptive and leave a call to action for the final section. An unsupported generated link can be removed with a Link removed warning. Stock promotional phrases can produce a Banned phrase warning unless the brand voice explicitly endorses them.

Automatic review looks for repetition, missing required points, claims stronger than their support, missing source links, internal research wording, voice drift, copy errors, weak transitions and thin or off-message sections. Repairs aim to fix eligible findings without changing the approved argument. Verification checks the repaired text and leaves unresolved findings under Checks. Repair verification skipped means repairs were kept but their final check did not complete. An empty list of checks does not certify the draft; read it before approval.

Work in the Draft tab

Click a finished section to edit it. The toolbar supports paragraph and heading styles, bold, italic, underline, lists, links and clear formatting. Changes autosave after a short pause; the status line reads Draft autosaved just now. If you continue typing while a save is running, your newer text stays in the editor and is saved in the next pass; the status can read Saving latest changes…. Save changes saves immediately. An edit returns a Ready draft to Needs check.

Below a section, the word count and status can show issues, sources to check, No issues or Needs generation. Select the status to open relevant Checks. Suggested links appear with different treatments for unchecked, checked and removed suggestions.

Add, move, rename or remove a section

Select Add section to add an empty section at the end. A heading can be up to 300 characters. Each section's Section options menu offers Rename, Move up, Move down and Remove. The last remaining section cannot be removed.

Before a structure change, current edits are saved and a Before draft section changes recovery point is created. The draft returns to Needs check; earlier review findings are cleared and a Review section changes warning is added. Removing a section removes its suggested sources. Structure changes are unavailable while generation runs.

Rewrite one section

The section button reads Rewrite section with AI when text exists, Write section with AI for an empty section, or Generate section for an unfinished or failed one. Wheremore uses the plan, outline and preceding sections to write that section. It replaces the section text and suggested sources and keeps a Before section regeneration recovery point.

Edit a section with Ask Wheremore

  1. Select Ask Wheremore on a finished section.
  2. Describe the change in up to 2,000 characters. Select Ask Wheremore, or press Cmd+Enter or Ctrl+Enter, to send it.
  3. Wait while Wheremore saves pending changes and edits the section. Editing controls are temporarily locked until the result is applied or the request fails. If pending changes cannot be saved, the AI edit does not start.
  4. Read the updated section and any notes explaining the changes. Select Done when it is shown.
  5. Open Review → Checks and read Review edited content. Check the revised claims and links before marking the draft ready again.

The instruction changes only the selected section. Wheremore uses the section text, its plan and project context; it does not perform a new research run. It is instructed to preserve existing links and their citation details and add no new sources. Existing source records and their check statuses remain, but check the links in the revised prose yourself.

The edit is saved before the result appears. A Before Ask Wheremore edit recovery point keeps the earlier version. The draft returns to Needs check, and any earlier Ready approval is cleared. Review edited content means the wording changed after any earlier review; it does not mean a new automatic review has run.

Generate the whole draft again

Generate again from outline rebuilds the draft from the saved outline. It replaces current prose and section order, including returning sections that are still in the outline. Current edits are saved first and a Before full draft regeneration recovery point is kept. This option appears only when an outline exists. Editing the outline alone never rewrites an existing draft.

Review sources, checks and history

Select Review to open the side panel:

Tab What it contains
Sources Suggested draft links, or research sources from the outline before a draft exists.
Checks Remaining editorial findings and warnings, with severity and a way to go to the affected section.
History Recovery points and unsaved conflict copies.

For a suggested source, Open visits the page, Mark checked records that you reviewed it, Remove marks the suggestion as removed, and Go to section jumps to its use. Check that the exact nearby claim is supported. Marking a source checked does not resolve editorial findings or guarantee the page's accuracy. Remove marks the suggestion but leaves any link in the draft text; use the section toolbar's remove-link control to remove the link itself.

Import existing content

Import an article when you want to edit it as a draft without first making an outline. From a new item's start screen select Import existing content, or use Import content in the saved workspace.

  1. Under Import from, choose Page URL or Pasted text.
  2. Enter a public page URL or paste the article.
  3. Select Preview article and check the extracted sections. Edit Draft title if needed.
  4. If a draft already exists, confirm that you want to replace it.
  5. Select Use as draft.

The URL route accepts a public HTTP or HTTPS HTML page under 2 MB. Extraction aims to keep the main article and remove navigation, forms, sidebars and other surrounding page elements. Each H2 starts a section; text before the first H2 becomes an opening section without a visible heading. Relative links become full URLs. The limit is 100 sections. Pasted text is treated as plain text, with blank lines separating paragraphs.

If the main article cannot be identified confidently, check the preview carefully. A preview expires after 15 minutes, and changing the input clears it.

Import does not rewrite or automatically review the article. The result is Needs check with a Review imported content warning and an origin line showing the URL or pasted-text source and retrieval time. Edits to this copy do not update the website. Replacing a draft keeps its outline and makes a Before importing content recovery point. An Idea topic imported into a new item becomes Brief Ready.

Return to the imported article through Outlines & drafts or its saved Draft button in Content Bank. The drawer can preview the draft even when there is no outline; use Open draft → to edit it.

Restore an earlier version

Open Review → History to inspect recovery points. Wheremore keeps the complete working state, including outline, draft, title and description, before significant changes. Points include the start of an editing session, section changes, import, outline or draft regeneration, section AI edits, automated repair, marking ready and restoration.

Select an entry and switch between its Draft and Outline previews. Current version is the working state and cannot be restored. For an earlier point, select Restore this version, confirm with Restore version, then Return to draft.

Restoring brings the outline and draft back together. Wheremore first saves the current state as Before restoring an earlier version. A restored draft returns to Needs check. Restoration does not change a published page on your website.

When saving pauses

Wheremore pauses a save if the same content changed elsewhere, such as in another tab, by a colleague or during a background operation. The status line tells you what happened:

Message Meaning
Save paused — your unsaved version was protected A conflict copy is available in Review → History.
Save paused — keep this tab open and copy your edits No conflict copy was stored; copy your work before reloading.
Operation stopped — content changed elsewhere An AI result was not applied over a newer version.

Under Unsaved conflict copies, Copy my version copies its text, Load latest saved version reloads the saved content, and Discard copy permanently removes that copy. A conflict copy is not a complete restorable version.

Mark the draft ready

Select Mark ready after every section is finished, contains text and has been reviewed. Wheremore saves the latest edits first. Outstanding warnings or unchecked sources require your explicit approval; check them rather than treating the confirmation as an automatic pass.

The draft becomes Ready, the linked Content Bank topic becomes Draft Ready, and a Marked ready recovery point is created. Later edits return the draft to Needs check; the Content Bank topic does not automatically move back. Ready is a workflow state in Wheremore, not publication to your website.

Preview, copy and export

Action Result
Preview draft Displays the finished sections together with a word count.
Export Word Downloads a Word document from the preview.
Export PDF Opens the browser's print dialog; allow pop-ups if nothing happens.
Copy draft Copies the whole draft for reuse.
Copy section Copies one section.

Exports and copies are working versions. Create a new one after later edits.

Drafts from Action Board tasks

An eligible Action Board content task can prepare a topic, outline and draft. Thesis approval still happens in the workspace. After approval, the task can continue drafting and show Draft ready for review. Read the draft, check sources and warnings, and select Mark ready yourself.

Delete a draft

Use Outlines & drafts in Content Bank to delete saved writing. Deleting an item removes its outline, draft and recovery history permanently and cannot be undone. A topic at Brief Ready returns to Idea, and a linked Board task is reset.

Troubleshooting

If you see this What to do
Create first draft is missing Save an outline first. A salvaged outline must be regenerated before drafting.
Planning fails Reduce the outline to 20 sections or fewer. If it changed during planning, review it and start again.
Generation is taking a long time Reopen the same workspace to reconnect rather than starting another run.
A section changed while being written Review its saved text and rewrite that section if needed.
Draft not reviewed or Background generation needs attention appears Keep the saved sections, inspect the failure and review the content before approving it. Contact support if the operation needs reconciliation.
Section changes, import or editing controls are temporarily unavailable Wait for the active generation, import, structure change or Ask Wheremore edit to finish.
Ask Wheremore does not start because current changes could not be saved Keep the page open, resolve the save error or conflict, and save your changes before retrying.
Review edited content appears Read the revised section and check its claims and links. Earlier approval has been cleared; mark the draft ready again only after your review.
Import fails Use a public HTML page within the size limit or paste the article. If a preview expired, run Preview article again.
A source was removed but its link remains in the text Use the section toolbar's remove-link control.
Mark ready is refused Finish every section, save edits, then review any changed warnings or source checks.
The published page did not change Publish or transfer the approved content through your website workflow.
