Managing Categories
Category Management lets you create and organise keyword groups—making it easier to filter, analyse, and report on specific segments of your tracked terms.
Quick start
1. Navigate to Manage Keywords and scroll to the Category Manager section
2. Select a domain from the dropdown
3. Enter a category name
4. Click Add Category
5. Assign the category to keywords in the keyword table
Understanding the display
The Category Manager uses a card-based interface. Each category appears as a card showing its name, domain, and keyword count.

Summary stats
| Stat | Meaning |
| Total Tags | Number of categories in the current workspace |
| Used | Categories with at least one keyword assigned |
| Unused | Categories with no keywords assigned |
| Domains | Number of domains with categories |
Category cards

Each card displays:
• Category name (top)
• Edit and delete buttons (top right)
• Domain name (bottom left)
• Keyword count (bottom right)
• Status indicator: green dot for in-use, grey dot for unused
What should I do next?
| Situation | Action |
| No categories exist | Create categories to organise keywords by theme or intent |
| Category created | Assign it to keywords using the keyword table |
| Many unused categories | Delete unused ones or assign them to keywords |
| Category name needs changing | Click the edit button to rename it |
| Too many categories showing | Use filters to show only Used, Unused, or a specific domain |
Creating categories
Categories are domain-specific. A category created for one domain is only available for keywords on that domain.
Steps
6. Select a domain from the dropdown
7. Enter a category name (maximum 50 characters)
8. Click Add Category
Category naming tips: Use descriptive names that reflect keyword intent or theme. Examples: "Product Pages", "Blog Posts", "Branded Terms", "Competitor Keywords".
Filtering categories
| Filter | Shows |
| All | Every category in the workspace |
| Used | Categories with one or more keywords assigned |
| Unused | Categories with no keywords assigned |
| Domain dropdown | Categories for a specific domain only |
| Search | Categories matching the search term |
Filters can be combined. Select "Unused" and a specific domain to find categories that need attention on that domain.
Editing categories
Renaming a category updates it everywhere—all keyword assignments retain the new name.
9. Click the edit icon on the category card
10. Enter the new name
11. Click Save Changes
Deleting categories
Click the delete icon on any category card. A confirmation prompt appears showing how many keywords are currently assigned.
What happens when deleting: Keywords are unassigned from the category but remain in the system. The keywords themselves are not deleted—only their category assignment is removed.
Troubleshooting
"No categories in this workspace"
Categories are filtered by workspace through their domains. Add domains to this workspace first, then create categories for those domains.
"No domains in this workspace"
Categories require a domain. Add domains using Domain Management before creating categories.
"That name already exists"
Category names must be unique within your account. Choose a different name or modify the existing category.
Category not appearing in keyword management
Categories are domain-specific. When adding keywords for a domain, only categories linked to that domain appear in the dropdown.
FAQ
Can the same category name exist for different domains?
No. Category names are unique across your account. Create distinct names for each domain, such as "Site A - Blog" and "Site B - Blog".
What happens to keywords when a category is deleted?
Keywords are unassigned but not deleted. They remain tracked and can be assigned to other categories.
Can a keyword have multiple categories?
Yes. Keywords can belong to multiple categories simultaneously. Manage assignments through the keyword table.
How many categories can be created?
There is no fixed limit. Create as many categories as needed to organise keywords effectively.
Are categories shared between workspaces?
Categories belong to domains, and domains belong to workspaces. A category is visible in workspaces where its domain exists.
