Manage Markets

Define the location, device and search engines used to track a website’s keyword rankings.

Overview

A market is a website-specific ranking setup. It combines:

  • A reference name
  • A search location
  • A device type
  • One or more search engines

Some older Wheremore areas call a market a search group. They refer to the same concept.

All keywords saved against the website are included in its market. Adding keywords later also adds them to the relevant tracking setup.

Quick start

  1. Open the Markets tab.
  2. Select + Add market.
  3. Choose the website and enter a market name.
  4. Select the location, device and search engines.
  5. Select Save market.

Choose the settings

Website

Select the domain whose keywords will be tracked. A market belongs to one website.

Market name

Enter a clear reference label such as UK desktop  or US mobile . The name helps identify the setup; the location, device and engines determine what is tracked.

A website cannot have two markets with the same name in the same workspace.

Location

Search for and select the location represented by the market. Choose the level that matches the audience, such as a country or city.

Device

Select Desktop or Mobile. Device choice affects the search environment used for ranking collection.

Search engines

Select at least one available search engine. Each selected engine creates its own ranking scope within the market.

View and search markets

The Markets table shows the website, market name, location, device, engines and status. Use Search markets to find a market by name, website or location.

The main website selector also narrows the table to one website.

Pause or reactivate a market

Use the status switch in the market row:

  • Active collects new scheduled rankings.
  • Paused keeps the market configuration but stops new scheduled checks.

Keywords added while a market is paused remain connected to it. Ranking checks resume after reactivation.

Delete a market

Deleting a market permanently removes that market’s ranking data and competitor selections.

  1. Find the market.
  2. Select its delete icon.
  3. Review the warning.
  4. Confirm deletion.

If Alert Manager refers to the market, change the alert to another market or All Markets first. Wheremore blocks deletion until the saved alert scope is changed.

What should I do next?

Situation Action
New website needs ranking data Create its first active market.
Separate mobile results are needed Add a mobile market.
Different locations matter Create a market for each required location.
Tracking should stop temporarily Pause the market.
Competitor comparison is needed Open Manage Competitors after saving the market.
Market is no longer required Change linked alerts, then delete it.

Market planning

Use separate markets when location or device differences matter to decisions. Give each setup a clear name that remains understandable across charts, alerts and analysis.

Categories are not markets. A category groups related keywords, while a market controls how rankings are collected.

Troubleshooting

A market with this name already exists

Use the existing market or enter a different name for that website.

A location cannot be found

  1. Enter a broader place name.
  2. Select a result from the location list.
  3. Use a country or city level that matches the audience.

The market has no ranking data

  1. Confirm that the website has keywords.
  2. Confirm that the market is Active.
  3. Check the selected location, device and engines.
  4. Wait for the next ranking collection.

The market cannot be deleted

Open Alert Manager and check for alerts using that market. Change their scope to another market or All Markets, save, then delete the market.

A paused market still appears

This is expected. Pausing preserves the setup and existing data; deletion removes it.
