Competitive Benchmark
Competitive benchmark compares your website's rankings with the competitors selected for the market and search engine.
Before you start
Select up to 10 competitors for the market and search engine in Manage Competitors. The headline figure, Competitors, shows how many active competitors are selected.
What the benchmark shows
Each row is one website. Your website is highlighted and shows your domain beneath it.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Website | The website's domain |
| Keywords ranking | The percentage of tracked keywords where the website ranks, the count (for example 5 of 7), a bar and the change from the previous period |
| Page one | The number of tracked keywords ranking in positions 1–10, with the percentage |
| Avg. position | The website's average position across the keywords it ranks for, shown as #n, or — if it ranks for none |
Rows are sorted by Keywords ranking, then Page one.
Which dates are used
The benchmark uses the latest date with competitor results in the selected period. The comparison uses the latest date with competitor results in the previous period.
These dates can differ from the dates used by Performance overview, so the two sections can show different figures for your website.
Read the change
The line beneath each bar shows the change in Keywords ranking:
| Change | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green ↑ n percentage points | The share of keywords ranking rose. |
| Red ↓ n percentage points | The share fell. |
| No change | The share is the same. |
| Earlier comparison unavailable | The previous period has no competitor results. |
If the number of tracked keywords changed between the two dates, a note says the comparison is indicative.
How it differs from the overview
Keywords ranking here counts any recorded position, and measures against the tracked keywords with results on the benchmark date. The Keywords ranking card in Performance overview counts positions 1–100 against keywords scheduled for a check.
A competitor that ranks for none of the tracked keywords shows 0% and —.
How the filters affect the benchmark
The benchmark reflects the selected market, search engine and category. With a category selected, only keywords in that category are compared.
Use the benchmark
- A competitor with more page-one keywords shows where your content has most to gain.
- A falling share for every website suggests a wider change in the search results.
- Use Opportunities in Keyword performance to find keywords where you and at least one selected competitor are outside the top 10.
